A little bit of Buschlen historyThe families of Buschlen/Bueschlen date back to the early 1500's in Frutigen, Switzerland. It is a small town south of Berne on a road leading up into the mountains. Inhabitants of the area were german speaking, as were the Buschlen families that immigrated to Canada and the US back in the 1800's and around the turn of the century. Why did they come here? From what I have found so far, religious persecution seems to be the strongest reason. Second to that was crop desease. Many of the people of that time were Mennonites or variants of. Believing in peace and not wishing to be part of the military, which in most cases was required. The push was on to move out, and that they did. Thousands left Switzerland and Germany and came to Southern Ontario, Manitoba, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. They came here to start new lives, and became our ancestors |
